Inclusive Communication

The ReadySet Inclusive Communication workshop provides organizations with the tools to communicate effectively and inclusively. In this session, participants will learn how interpersonal bias manifests in workplace communication and how it impacts people differently from marginalized backgrounds.

Participants will be given concrete tools to communicate across differences, have tough conversations about identity, hear and recognize the contributions of colleagues across diverse backgrounds, and resolve conflicts in healthy ways. This workshop empowers teams to build new norms for communication and to develop a collective vision for organizational culture moving forward.

Learning Outcomes

  • Awareness of how bias affects the way we communicate

  • Understanding of how to approach and have tough conversations and resolve conflict

  • Skills for inclusive communication and communicating around differences without bias

  • Understanding of how to establish community communication norms

Content May Include

  • Reflecting on bridging the gap between different communication styles (i.e. introvert vs. extrovert, idealistic vs. critical, direct or indirect, etc.)

  • Biases & microaggressions that show up in communication

  • Understanding our own communication and conflict styles

  • Principles of inclusive communication

  • Beneficial quotes for communicating across difference

  • Inclusive language, phrases to avoid, methods for messaging around challenging topics

Methodology

Learning sessions are highly interactive and participatory to encourage active learning and engagement with the material. Workshops will likely include lecture presentation, large group discussion and scenario discussion facilitated through virtual tools.
